Nequa Da Diva own Skyscraper

This is my skyscraper I made by hand. I made this skyscraper with cardboard and paper. It took me 3 days to do this building. It was a lovely time doing this project.

**My Skyscraper**

This is my Sky Scraper I made on Bryce5.5. Bryce is like a 3D modeling program. My building is built in New York, New York. Its on 135 Broadway in a school park. It surrounded by many buildings. This building is used for a shopping center in Harlem. Many people love to shop in this Mall.It have many stores in it like American Eagle, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Lucky Brand, and etc. Its also surrounded by a big building called 3333 Broadway. My Mall also have a louging place with many food courts. This Mall also haves a place for the kids to play.

**Philip Johnson Pictures**

**Philip Johnson**

Philip Johnson also made a Skyscraper in New York called the Seagram Building. Philip Johnson also got help from Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which is another architect. This building is a nice bronze and glass tower on Park Avenue. This building has 39 stories. The architectural style is an International Style. This building was built in 1957. In front of the Seagram Building it’s a sculpture he also made.

Philip Johnson

Philip Johnson’s recent design was for a new school of fine arts for Seton Hill College in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
When Philip Johnson died, Cathedral of Hope in Dallas used his plans for a new school of fine arts at Seton Hill College in Greenburg, Pennsylvania. Philip Johnson’s early work is the Glass House, which is in New Canaan, Connecticut. Philip Johnson’s Glass House is now open to the public. In the glass house, they have many designs of Philip Johnson’s life.
Philip Johnson early work was part of what was called international style modernism. Most of all of Philip Johnson buildings are made of glass. All of his buildings are symmetrical. To me I think some of his buildings look the same. Philip Johnson puts a lot of effort into his art. Like some architects just build just because they can. John Burgee was the only one who could work for Philip. When Johnson died Mr. Burgee was in charge of his designs.
My favorite building by Philip Johnson is the Glass House. I like it because it is square and enough room for fifty people. The Glass House is in the country but it doesn’t look like it belongs there. If I lived in a glass house I would like it because it is different. Its nice but I worry about the sun and privacy. And I think it is beautiful to be able to see nature all the time.

Philip Johnson

In the year of 1949, Philip was brought up in Flushing New York. When he was a young boy he was staying in his Aunt Dorothy’s house. As Philip Johnson always says “I love that it’s a ruin because I love ruins. Everybody does I think. They just don’t love them enough to leave them. ”Meaning that all his structures was ruined but he really didn’t care because he likes when it’s ruined. Its better when its messed up so he can do it better. Johnson had many structures. But he really didn’t care about them. Philip Johnson also made several books. In the late 1920’s he became more interested architecture and the growing modern aesthetic.
Philip Johnson was a very hard worker in High School until he realized he wanted to be an architect. Soon as he realized he wanted to be an architect he always would get in trouble in school because he will always draw during class time. Philip Johnson attended many schools and he also would finish them. He attended Denny School, Seward School, Broadway School and he graduated from a school of design at Harvard. Mr. Johnson graduated in the year of 1943 then he joined the army. He went to a college called University of Washington and studied mechanical engineering.

Philip Johnson

Philip Johnson was born on July 8, 1906. He died on January 25, 2004. Philip was 98 years old when he past away. Before he died his long time friend David Whitney, who died a few months later, survived him. He died in the Glass House he designed. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio.
Mr. Johnson made several buildings before he passed away. He designed the Lipstick building, AT&T and the Glass House. He designed his first building at the age of 36. He actually designed his own New York City apartment. While Mr. Johnson was growing up he was into drawing and sketching on paper. Since Philip Johnson was so good at his work, he was a consultant to John Burgee Architects. Basically that was a part time job. But he was still working on his own work. Mr. Johnson also made a nice big Glass House.

The Staten Island Trip

Tuesday the class went on a trip to Staten Island. In order for us to get to Staten Island we had to walk under the Brooklyn Bridge. We had to catch the Ferry to get across the water. The walk was like 30 minutes long. I was scared when i was walking under the brige because its wood and you would never know when it break. When we finally got to the place to wait for the Ferry we only waited like 5 minutes and we had to wait for the other half of the class. It was many people waiting for the Ferry. When we got on the Ferry we had lots of fun. Everybody was all over looking for a spot to sit or stand. Mainly people was on the outside of the Ferry. It took like 15minutes to get across the water. While the Ferry was in motion we saw the Statue of Liberty and many other nice buildings. Then we got of the Ferry just to back on the Ferry. Then Finally we got back to Manhattan and everybody went there separate ways.

The Sony Building {at&t}

The AT&T is now in the same building as the Sony. The color of this building is beige. The Sony building is 37 stories up built in Manhattan. This building is located on Madison Ave. 55th and 56th street. The AT&T building was created by Philip Johnson and his less famous partner John Burgee. Philip Johnson actually brought the international style to America in 1932.

**~The Skyscraper Video~**

Yesterday June 14,2007, We watch a movie called "The Sky Scraper". This movie was basically about different sky scrapers and how they were built. I learned that in New York sky scrapers are very important. They are mainly saying if it warent for the person who made up sky scrapers there wouldnt be no tall buildings. If it wasnt for tall buildings it would be very windy in the city. There are many different shape and colored sky scrapers in the city.

**~The Steel Tree~**

Yesterday we saw a nice big steel tree. This tree is made of structural steel. This steel tree stands up very nice and tall. This tree stands out the most out of all tress bacause its noticeable. This tree has a lot of stems. It stands in nice pretty grass. Basically this steel tree will help the next generation of engineers visualize structures, understand how various components are collected. This tree demonstrates some of the most common strutural steel components and elements used to build the skyscrapers bridges and etc.

*MET-LIFE*

Today in class we study the Metropolitan Life Insurance (Met Life)this building was found in 1868 right here in New York City. For most of it life the company was a mutual organziation but it went public in 2000.The part thats so cool about this building is how they can change the color of the top to what ever you want it to be.This building to me is the most coolest building cause in New York we have alot of nice building but, not like this building. The shape is very interesting and the features is too.For example the clock is very different from others.

FLAT- IRON BUILDING

Today we are writing about the Flat Iron building. The flat Iron building was constructed in the year of 1903. The architect the people who build/ thought of it is Daniel Burnham and John Wellborn Root. This building is very tall. Basically you can say its one of the tallest buildings in new York. Its 285 feet tall and it has 22 floors. This is building haves a very unique stlye its Beaux Arts. This building is very famous. This is the first and only flat building. The flat iron stands up very strong and the color is a calmful gray. Its exactly made of steel skeleton, limestone and glazed terra-cotta. The building haves repeated shapes. Basically its retangled windows. It also haves famous people pictures on the building. On the top of the building its a steel picture of a lion and two people beside it. When we first saw this building our reactions was wow. If I can change something I would change the color the hot pink and yellow so that it can stands out more then what it does. I would also change the apperance. For Example: I would have security at the door to take the people where they need to be so there will not be anyone and anything that will be in th Flat Iron building. What i do like about the building is the shape.

TINY AND NEQUA SKYSCRAPERS

THE ELEVATOR WAS FIRST USED TO CARRY OBJECTS OTHER THEN PEOPLE. IT WASNT YET PROVEN IF IT WAS SAFE ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE TO USE YET. WHEN JENNINGS FIRST CAME UP WITH THE IDEA TO SEE IF IT CAN BE USED FOR PEOPLE. WHEN HE FIRST TRIED TO SEE IF IT WORKED, HE TRIED IN FRONT OF AUDIENCE HIGH UP IN THE AIR KNOWING THAT HE CAN DIE FROM IT. WHEN HE FINALLY DID IT IT WAS SUCCESFUL. THATS WHY PEOPLE CAN USE ELEVATORS NOW. SO BASICALLY THE ELEVATORS ARE USED TO GET TO FLOOR TO FLOOR FASTER.
JAMES EIFFEL CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF PUTING A ELEVATOR IN THE EIFFEL TOWERS TO BRING PEOPLE TO VIEW IT, BECAUSE HE KNEW ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD COME TO SEE THE VIEW OF ALL OF PARIS IF HE PUTS IN A ELEVATOR.
THE REASON WHY THEY BUILD SKY SCRAPERS BECAUSE IT WAS LIKE A RACE. TO SEE WHICH ONE WOULD BE THE TALLEST. ALSO THE DESIGN SYMBOLIZED THEIR CULTURE. IT WAS ALSO BUILT TO BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BE HIGH UP IN THE AIR.
